Glassed the lower seam of the nosewheel pant. After it cured, I drilled #40 plot holes every 2" where the screws will go to join the two halves. I used a free paper "yard/meter stick" from IKEA to wrap around the pant and layout the locations. I then managed to split the two halves without damage. The packing tape and grease worked well as "releasing agents" and the cleco tips came out cleanly without any resin residue attached. I clecoed the halves together at the pilot holes and will do flange trimming after the pant cures for a few more days.
Started trimming the wing tips for the 18' 9" span. The calculated tip length is 10", allowing for 3/4" where the tip goes under the skin for attachment. Using the supplied tips that are 20" long will result in a span of 20' 4" according to Sonex. Those planning on a 20' span may need to trim a couple of inches off each tip, although one of the Sonex protypes is using the 20' 4" span.
I'll save the cutoff sections of the wingtip. If the stall speed is above LSA minimums, more wing can be grafted back on.
